“A kind and compassionate act is often its own reward.”~William John Bennett
January 28, 2014 was a very sad day in our town. We decided that with the anniversary approaching we wanted to take the focus off of the tragic events of that day. Instead we wanted to focus doing the exact opposite so we organized our first community wide Random Acts of Kindness Day! What we didn't expect was how far our RAK Awareness would spread across the state of OHIO.

We sold t-shirts and bracelets to raise awareness. Social media catapulted our message and made RAK Day a huge day full of random acts. People all over the state of OHIO participated in Waynesville’s first annual RAK Awareness Day! As far north as Westerville and as far south as Cincinnati acts of kindness were performed. Some of the RAK spread this year included writing an inspirational note, saying “please and thank you”, taking a neighbors trash can back to the house, buying lottery tickets and letting the cashier pass them out to those behind you in line, sending flowers anonymously, spending time talking to residents at a nursing home, making a donation to a charity, and giving the office secretary gift cards to McDonalds to pass out randomly to students were just a few RAK performed this day. It is our hope that RAK will continue DAILY in our lives. We thank the entire state of OHIO for joining in a wonderful community effort to raise awareness to the value of giving anonymously and for “Paying it Forward Justin Style!” Thank you Justin for your inspiration.
